Who Are We?

 
Gas Assessment & Training Centre
 
Founded in December 2001, Gas Assessment & Training Centre (Wales) Ltd is owned and managed by its three directors Stan Robbins, Norman Willis and Robert Edwards.
 
The centre has a nucleus of four direct employees and as well as several time served trainers and assessors.
 
Our certification body is the acknowledged British Plumbing Employment Council (BPEC) who support the centre through all aspects of the assessment process.

Stan has forty three years experience within the gas industry and is a past president of the Gas Association of Wales. His working career started in 1958 as an apprenice gas fitter and progressed through various technical and service development post, through to General Management at Senior Management level. In addition he has played a major role in developing quality systems and ISO processes, and has recently worked as a consultant with a number of companies developing their organisational processes and operating practices.

Robert's knowledge and experience within the Gas industry is extensive, it covers all aspects of work and ranges from clerical and administration through to service management. During the last five years he has had a significant role in supporting the industry through the period of change, this includes the development of a billing system for the national gas company, developing and implementation of a number of training courses including customer services. Robert was a major player in the relocation of a large financial service company moving into the Cardiff area, this included process reengineering, change management and creation of an operational infrastructure.

Norman started his working life as an apprentice gas fitter in 1963. After 19 years "on the tools" he progressed from service technician through to General Manager and onto National Sales/ Sercive Director. As an operational manager he achieved national recognition for delivering high levels of Customer Service. He has recently worked on projects within the Gas industry which include the separation of the operational business units within BG, Transco, focussing on IT System development for information management and system functionality. Norman has been involved in training and development over the previous five years and is an Investor in People Practitioner.

What We Offer

 
Assessment
 
From its early beginnings GATC has steadily grown to become a centre which offers one of the most comprehensive range of gas assessments in the region. This range of assessments includes Domestic, Commercial, Catering, LPG as well as specialist areas such as meter work and tightness testing to meet IGE Standard UP/IA UP/10.
 
We also offer non Gas certified programmes including Energy Efficiency, Part P electrical accredication and Unvented Hot Water.
 
Training
 
Existing Operatives
 
Comprehensive training programmes have been developed for each of the assessment categories and are available to help support the candidate in achieving their chosen assessment qualifications.
 
We deliver short refresher courses for the experienced gas operatives from 3 day courses for domestic and commercial core categories to half day specialist subjects training courses.
 
Training programmes for previously qualified operatives are optional
 
New Operatives
 
We also offer training programmes for new entrants into the industry such as category 2 and category 3 candidates and in some circumstances funding may be available.

Appreciation Courses
 
GATC also deliver gas appreciation courses for candidates who do not need to be qualified but benefit from a work perspective, in gaining an understanding of gas legistlation, standards and operating practices.
