Christian worship
Everyone is welcome to join us for Christian worship at Castle Square United Reformed Church. Whatever your beliefs, you will find a warm welcome here and we would be delighted if Castle Square could become your spiritual home.
On Sunday mornings at 11am there is a service of worship. The service includes prayers, hymns (traditional and modern), readings from the Bible and a sermon which explains more about what God might be saying to us today. The service lasts about an hour. The music is provided by our organists, Vena Edwards, Iris Evans and Ann Edwards.
On Christmas Day and Easter Day our morning worship is held at the earlier time of 9.30am. See the Special events page for details.
Communion
The service of Holy Communion reminds us of how Jesus, on the night before he died, shared bread and wine with his disciples, and said to them “This is my body” and “This is my blood”. Although they did not understand it at the time, Christians ever since have found that in sharing communion we are in a special way united with Jesus Christ and with the communion of saints, those Christian people who have died and already gone to heaven to be with God.
Communion is celebrated as part of our Sunday morning service on the second Sunday of each month, and also on special occasions such as Maundy Thursday, Good Friday and Easter Day. We welcome everyone, of all ages, who hears Jesus’s invitation and wants to respond to receive the bread and the wine. If you prefer not to eat the bread and drink the wine, you are still welcome to come to the service.
The Maundy Thursday communion is a particular highlight of our worship life, as we share communion as part of a meal, just as Jesus and his disciples did at the Last Supper.
Sometimes it is not possible to get to church, and you would like to receive communion at home. This can be arranged by contacting the minister (Tel. 01443 662011 or 07889 858062). He will usually bring an elder of the church with him. If the minister is not available, two of the elders are authorised to preside at a service in home (or in hospital or a care home). You are welcome to arrange for members of your family or a neighbour to join you for this simple service. Home communion can be given in Welsh or English, as you wish.
