In October 2006, Castle Square United Reformed Church became a Fairtrade Church. This means:
* we are committed to using Fairtrade tea and coffee at all functions for which we have responsibility, including Chewsdays at Castle Square
* we are committed to moving forward on using other Fairtrade products whenever we can
* we will promote Fairtrade, initially by means of a monthly stall on the 4th Sunday of each month, when we will also serve Fairtrade tea and coffee after the morning service.
Fairtrade products guarantee a fair and stable price to the producers of the raw ingredients, many of whom are amongst the poorest people in the world. A social premium is also paid to the producer group, which is used to improve education, health care, water supplies and so on in the communities where the goods are produced.
