New elders
Three new elders were elected by the church during worship on Sunday 27th July 2008. They are Mrs Gill Miller, Mrs Connie Monks and Mrs Gillian Cox. We are very grateful to all three for being so willing to take up this new form of service to the church, joining and strengthening the existing team of elders.
In the United Reformed Church, elders are ordained to their role at a communion service, as we believe that elders are called by God to this work. They are also inducted to serve in the local church. This took place on Sunday 2nd November at 11am. The picture above shows the three new elders with (on the far left) Eleri Evans (Synod Elder for the South Wales Region of the United Reformed Church) and the minister.
Narcotics Anonymous
As mentioned in last week's service, Narcotics Anonymous are using our church hall on a Tuesday evening at 7pm for their meeting. The meetings are open to anyone who feels that they need with narcotic dependency (although those under the influence of drugs are alcohol are not admitted to the meetings). You will in due course see posters advertising these meetings in the local area. As the name suggests, it is part of the ethos that those who attend are able to do so anonymously, so please be sensitive to that should you need access to the church premises for any other reason on a Tuesday evening. Please remember NA in your prayers.
Wendy & Colin Binks Prayer News - July 2008
Please continue to pray for Colin's recovery following his back operation and Wendy's studies and health. Back in India at Nav Jivan Hospital, they ask us to pray for:
-
a new phase in the TB project starting from July 1st. Please pray for the choice of a driver and assistant with gifts of evangelism. They will be in the village for most of the time, and also for a young man called Anugrah(means "Grace") who is going to another EHA Hospital for training in computer data entry for research so that a strong research team can be built up in the TB Unit.
-
The urgent need for a Surgeon and Obstetrician/Gynaecologist.
-
Building of a Neo-natal Unit should have just started!
-
The Burns Unit - wide consultation and discussion needed at this important planning stage.
-
A training programme at NJH in August. This is designed to help and encourage Indian Christian medical students to consider serving Christ through Christian healthcare ministry.
-
An essential piece of equipment is held up in Delhi customs. This is urgently needed for Dr Cheringto start a much needed Endoscopy service at NJH.
Another Centenary!
In 2005, Castle Square Church celebrated its centenary (see below). On 26th May 2007, our oldest member celebrated hers! Mrs Vera Gregory is pictured below with our minister on her birthday, surrounded by some of the many flowers and presents she received. Vera is a lifelong member of Castle Square - the second baby to be baptised here.
Savings bank
This year has seen the end of an era at Castle Square. For as long as I can remember there has been a Sunday School bank and I have, as you know, always loved having ‘the bank’ out just before Christmas. Many of you feel the same, I know.
So, this is just to say a big thank you to all the people who have been involved over the years in helping us to save while at the same time boosting church funds. Thank you, Ann, for all your hard work over the last few years. We will miss it very much.

Gwyneth and Len
Just two days before I am writing this, Lee Suan and I made a trip from Salford to Nottingham to visit Gwyneth and Len.
We were so glad to see them in their new home and I am happy that now I can picture where they are. The four of us spent a pleasant couple of hours chatting over a cup of tea and cakes in their comfortable lounge.
Gwyneth told us about their visits to the local town, the Methodist church they now attend and the happy times they spend with their grandchildren.
To the delight of all of us, but especially to Len, Colin arrived with the twins, Sophie and Rhianna. The girls had a great time raiding Grandma’s kitchen for cake and squirty cream and both of them were chatty to Lee Suan and me. When I said to Rhianna ‘your Grandma spoils you doesn’t she?’ her reply was ‘That’s what Grandmas are for!’ How right she is!
By the time you all read this, we will all have seen Len and Gwyneth at the Christmas lunch. It will be great to have them ‘home’ again, even if only for a short while.
All the best, Gwyneth and Len, for a happy life in Beeston.
