Joining the church

The simplest way to join our church is to come along on a Sunday morning at 11am. You will be warmly welcomed.

As you get to know us, you will gradually discover what we believe and you may decide that you would like to make your own confession of faith, or transfer your membership from another Christian church.

If so, you will be invited to discuss the matter with our minister. If you have been a member of a church before, he will contact your previous fellowship to ask for a “letter of transfer”. Unlike in the football world, there is no transfer fee to pay! If you have never been a church member before, he will arrange a few sessions in which you can begin to discuss the meaning of Christian faith and living, learn about the Bible and the church.

If after this preparation, you decide to become a full member of the church, you will be asked to make this declaration of personal faith at a communion service:

I confess my faith in one God, Father, Son and Holy Spirit,
taking the Father to be my Father,
the Son to be my saviour and Lord,
the Spirit to be my helper and guide.

I promise, in dependence on God’s grace,
to be faithful in private and public worship,
to live in the fellowship of the Church and to share in its work,
and to give and serve, as God enables me,
for the advancement of his kingdom throughout the world.

I promise, by that same grace, to follow Christ
and to seek to do and to bear his will all the days of my life.

And I trust in his mercy alone to bring me
into the fullness of the life of the world to come.

Members of the church are expected to contribute as they are able:
  • Time to help run the church and to care for other members and those in need in the community;
  • Treasure, usually by giving money regularly to church funds, as well as contributing to Christian Aid and other good causes;
  • Talent by making your abilities available to the church and to the wider community in Christian service.
