What is the Expert Patients Programme (EPP)?
EPP is an NHS based self-management course for people with long-term health conditions, and carers of people with long-term condtions.
The course runs for six weeks, two and a half hours per week, and covers a number of topics to help people manage their long-term condition(s) on a day-to-day basis.
Topics covered include symptom management, dealing with difficult emotions, coping with stress and depression, pain management, relaxation techniques, dealing with low self-image, healthy eating, the benefits of exercise, communication skills with friends, family and health professionals, problem solving, and planning for the future.
Who is EPP for?
EPP if for anyone over the age of eighteen with a long-term health condition. A long-term condition is considered long-term if the person has had it for twelve months or more, or where the condition is expected to last for more than twelve months.
