Resident Ponies

Trooper has a Roman nose and chunky build, this made him attractive to the rougher type horse owner. He was tethered on a chain. Within the circle were rusting metal car bodies. He had bad festering gashes needing attention and badly overgrown and split hooves. He came to the centre as a yearling. Rather tatty and thin as this photo shows. Now he's a strong handsome chap.

Lukie's pregnant mum was used to pay a debt between men. She was kept in a tiny bare allotment. Later a vet shot his badly emaciated mum as she was too weak to survive. He was left nuzzling his mum's dead body for several days before he was brought to us, his spirit broken, dehydrated, lice-ridden and thin. Now he's a fine black 'Section A' Welsh mountain pony; full of life.

Star is a very pretty chestnut cob mare with a long white star and flaxen mane and tail. She has been badly beaten. Whereas some ponies have their spirit broken by cruelty, Star had become vicious. She is adjusting well and can now be handled, she cannot however be trusted as bad memories can trigger a personality change in the wink of an eye. It is very unlikely that Star can ever leave the centre.

Truly is a pretty Skewbald. She had been bought by a man as a plaything for his young children. She was kept in an old railway wagon and treated like a doll by the children. She defended herself by kicking and biting. She is fine now and her trust has come back.

Harlequin was taken from her mother at just four months old. She was a roan Skewbald. Her colour has changed to a beautiful marbled Appaloosa. When she first arrived she had never been handled and was wild. She has a very nice nature, very proud and very mischievous.

Black Jack is a jet black Shetland gelding. He has never been hurt and is a real gentleman. Children love BJ. In the Winter his deep fluffy coat makes him like a teddy bear. The farrier has to kneel down to work on his feet. He is a mischief and is always having fun playing with the others. BJ often comes to shows and city centres to meet the children.

Cherokee is a striking Skewbald gelding. He is very handsome. Sadly he has very bad memories of his abuse at the hands of men before he came to the centre, which he cannot seem to forget. We suspect he will never trust or even like humans again.
