March 2009
Congratulations! An alert resident of Llanover Road saw a white van in the rear lane. Three men were seen removing drain covers. He took their vehicle number and reported the incident to the Police.
CCTV - Our CCTV systems were used in the last few months for the identification of persons involved in a number of thefts - tools and scrap.
Alley Gates - These are provided to reduce crime and disturbance in rear lanes. One set of gates has been provided in Maesycoed and another is being considered for Trallwn. The Police make recommendations for such gates on the basis of recorded incidents. The cost is high - about £5000 per installation.
Police Community Support Officer - PCSO Lynne Meacham now covers the Trallwn and Common areas. Her phone number is 07805 301043
SCAMS and CONS - The latest organisation we've heard of is a gambling syndicate which has been approaching individuals with '30 free offers' allowing you to join. A freephone number is given.
This is a con! Don't respond to this - or you'll lose lots of money!!!!
INTERNET SCAM - There are several sites offering animals 'free to good homes'. They have mobile numbers with foreign ring tones and replies are in bad English. One was in Belfast and another in the Cameroon, Africa. Money is requested for shipping, insurance and vaccination. One person has already lost £700 before realising it was a scam. Dont be taken in !!!!!!
Fire Safety - Fire in the home is one of the biggest threats to life and property. Many lives have been lost because of faulty smoke detectors, so check regularly. You need advice on these and many other aspects of fire safety. For detailed advice look at: www.neighbourhoodwatch.net or www.southwales-fire.gov.uk.
For a free Home Fire Safety Check ring FREE on 0800 328 1830 or our local station on 01443 232600.
