RHONDDA CYNON TÂF COUNTY BOROUGH COUNCIL
Community Care Division – Cynon Principal Office
CARERS GROUP
Rhondda Cynon Tâf, North Glamorgan Trust and Age Concern Morgannwg, recognise the needs of carers and the important role they play in people’s care.
The Carers Group is open to the carers of clients who use the Day Centre or the William Stephen Jones Club and was initiated at the request of the carers.
The Group meets fortnightly on a Friday between 1:30 and 3:30 pm and is facilitated by the Day Centre Manager, supported by 2 Care Co-ordinators from the Older Persons Mental Health Team.
The aims of the Group are to:
-
share and receive information on the issues around caring for people at home with dementia;
-
provide support to enable carers to manage in their role;
-
access appropriate and relevant training and information on dementia, that includes joint training with staff working within Older Persons Mental Health Services, eg: presentations, speakers, etc;
-
provide opportunities for pursuing interests and hobbies;
-
organise fund-raising for the benefit of clients attending Day Centre and the Evening Club within the policies and procedures of the Finance Department of Rhondda Cynon Tâf;
-
provide one-to-one consultation from mental health staff to individual carers, when appropriate;
-
inform future developments of the Unit and the wider Older Persons Mental Health Services by providing representation on the local planning Mental Health Group.
It is envisaged that the Group will be held less frequently during times where there is a reduction of staff during holiday periods. Carers needing advice and support can always call into the Centre or contact their Care Co-ordinator. However, the Carers Group is welcome to meet without staff, so that continued support is guaranteed.
At present, it is identified that carers who are working are unable to attend the Group. This is currently under review and it is envisaged that a drop-in facility can be offered every 2 months on a Wednesday evening, 6:00-7:00 pm at the Centre. Date will be confirmed when the staffing structure is reviewed at the Centre.
The Carers Group will be reviewed every 6 months.
