Are we our selves?

Are we really ourselves in relationships?

Recently I went to Cardiff in pirate costume to celebrate a friend’s birthday. There were loads of people dressed up; there were super heroes and some very ‘lush’ looking males in army uniform.

It got me thinking, being in costume and drinking alcohol, did we all adapt our personalities to ‘fit’ with our costumes? Did the men dressed as super heroes and soldiers, gain confidence by acting out the part? All of us in costume attracted more attention than the others, so with this, did we became more extravert? The super heroes were all posing and the soldiers we doing some kind of martial arts and all us pirates danced like loons, drank too much and went round shouting “ARRGGHHH”. Basically acting like pirates. We got drinks bought for us, kisses and cwtches and loads of guys hung round us. These men actually thought we were normally this mad.

Now, I'm a pretty confident girl, but I'm not sure without the costume I would have been so boisterous that night. So, did the majority of the others act out of character and get into their costume character? Girls that went home with super heroes or soldiers may have had a bit of a shock in the morning as underneath the costume they were just ‘normal’ guys.

Although, I wonder how many people who met someone that night and got a few numbers, continued to play up to the character they were that night, are continuing to act that way now? How many are faking their way into a relationship? Or are we never really ourselves in relationships, regardless of costumes?

Pretending to be someone you’re not when there’s a chance you could initially start a relationship is not a good idea. Don’t be a faker, you can be the best actor in the world but you’ll never be able to keep it up. It’s really disappointing when you learn that someone you trust is a fake. I’ve had plenty of experience with those types of men. Just be yourself and be happy with it. If a man fakes his way into our lives, so be it. It will be them who’ll end up red faced when you find them out. But, ladies if you must fake something in a relationship, you know how and where to do it (in bed)!
