Reiki (pronounced Ray-key) is a Japanese word meaning "Universal Life Energy" and is a energy healing Therapy that uses universal energy to re-balance, energise and help promote the body's own healing abilities.
It is a Holistic Therapy that treats the person as a whole and can be used in conjunction with Medical Treatments.
The treatment involves your Therapist gently placing their hands on/near the body and is usually a deeply relaxing therapy, ideal for use in stress/anxiety management.
Reiki Therapists DO NOT diagnose and your Medical care remains the responsibility of your Medical Practitioner.
Your Treatment
At your first visit, a detailed history is taken of your lifestyle/medical problems.
This ensures that treatment is appropriate for you and carried out safely.
A treatment is given while you are lying on a couch or comfortably seated in a chair.
You will be asked to remove your coat/shoes and glasses if you wear them.
Your Therapist will give a treatment by gently placing their hands on/near your body in a sequence of positions to cover the whole body.
If you are lying on a couch, you will be helped to turn over half way through the session to enable your Therapist to treat your back.
There is no massage involved.
Reiki is a deeply relaxing treatment and you may feel sleepy, emotional, hot, cold, or tingling from your Therapist's hands.
Some people feel wide awake and energised and others feel nothing at all.
Some, all or none of the above are perfectly normal responses.
There is no right or wrong way to experience Reiki, your body will react in the most appropriate way in order to best promote healing.
