News for week ending 17th May 2009
Weather conditions during the past week did not deter the hardened Gelligaled players both at home and at away locations.
Unfortunately the Monday 2 rink afternoon fixture against Penrhys Park was postoponed due to Penrhys once again not having enough players available.
On Wednesday evening Gelligaled playing the first round of the Taff Ely President's Shield competition (2 rinks home and 2 away) against an Ystradfechan team, which included 2 young bowlers from Blaenrhondda, failed to reach the required standard.
In a Rhondda League match played at home on Thursday against Cymmer Welfare the Galed squad proved too strong for the visitors – Gelligaled taking 12 of the 14 points.
Saturday afternoon saw Gelligaled playing the first match in the Carruthers Shield at the Harlequins green. Despite the atrocious weather conditions all 4 rinks completed over 15 ends before the game was called to an end. Harlequins winning comfortably on 3 rinks and by just 8 shots on the 4th. Harlequins have now completed and won their 3 section games and now play in the 1st round of the competition on June 20th. All good wishes to them.
